Alyssa Daye Gardens Groundbreaking: 31 Homes for Families in Recovery

Tuesday, October 6, 2026

The Peer Company broke ground on Alyssa Daye Gardens, 31 units of Permanent Supportive Housing for families in recovery in Southeast Portland. The new homes sit next door to The Peer Company Recovery Campus, where residents can choose peer-delivered services and wraparound support.

The Peer Company, formerly the Mental Health & Addiction Association of Oregon, is an inclusive, peer-run nonprofit that supports recovery and wellness through lived experience.

Alyssa Daye Gardens Groundbreaking Ceremony

Elected officials, funders, partners, staff, and supporters gathered Tuesday afternoon to mark the start of construction. Emily Nelson, Director of The Peer Company’s Oregon Peer Training & Innovation Center and Alyssa’s sister, spoke for the family and remembered Alyssa as someone with a huge heart who made room for everyone and wanted people to know they belonged.

Guests included Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards, Metro Councilor Duncan Hwang, representatives of U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and Roberto Franco, Deputy Director of Oregon Housing and Community Services. Janie Gullickson, Executive Director of The Peer Company, shared that families deserve a stable home and a community that believes in their future, and that Alyssa Daye Gardens brings those two things together.

Alyssa Daye Gardens is named in loving memory of Alyssa Daye, daughter of Executive Director Janie Gullickson, who loved children and believed deeply in family and connection. In her honor, the site will include pink flowering trees, her favorite color, that will bloom each February, the month of her birthday.

The project is designed to keep families together. Too often, families facing houselessness and seeking support must separate to reach recovery services and housing. Alyssa Daye Gardens offers a different path, joining stable, long-term housing with voluntary, peer-delivered services and wraparound support at the peer community center next door, which completes the vision for the Recovery Campus. Permanent supportive housing is a nationally recognized, evidence-based model shown to reduce chronic homelessness, and the support comes from people with lived experience who understand the journey.
