Crisis hotlines generally operate 24/7 for urgent or emergent needs.

Warmlines, helplines and friendship lines and such can be great resources for connecting with caring people.  Talking with a peer – someone who has similar lived experience – can be a comfort, relief and support.

Warmlines are not substitutes for crisis hotlines.

For example, warmlines may not be available  24/7, may have limited hours and limited volunteer staff.  Callers may be asked to leave a voice message and have to wait a day or more for a callback.

PeerGalaxy Calendar has identified many different warmlines, helplines etc.  Some are general, some are specific to certain topics, age groups, cultural backgrounds, health conditions etc.
