About The Compassionate Friends
The Compassionate Friends was founded by bereaved parents who understood that the most powerful support often comes from those who have walked the same path. With chapters across the United States and international reach, the organization has grown into one of the most widely recognized peer-led bereavement organizations in the world, offering a network of support to families facing one of life’s most devastating losses.
The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to provide highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a child, sibling, or grandchild, and to help others better assist the grieving family. TCF is built on the principle of peer support — that those who have experienced loss are uniquely positioned to support others through theirs. The organization espouses no specific religious, philosophical, or political ideology, welcoming families from all backgrounds.
The Compassionate Friends serves bereaved parents, grandparents, and adult siblings (age 18 and over) regardless of the cause or circumstances of death. The organization recognizes that grief is deeply personal and that the needs of bereaved families are as varied as the losses they have endured. Specialized support is available for those who have lost their only child, those grieving a suicide loss, families navigating pregnancy or infant loss, and many more.
The Online Support Community extends TCF’s reach to those who cannot access in-person chapters due to geography, mobility, or other barriers. Volunteer-led virtual chat rooms operate seven days a week, providing a safe, moderated space for bereaved individuals to share, listen, and find connection. All chat volunteers are themselves bereaved parents, grandparents, or siblings trained in TCF’s peer support principles. Registration is required to protect the safety and privacy of all community members.

The Compassionate Friends
Online Chat Support Community
The Compassionate Friends is a nationally renowned non-profit organization providing highly personal comfort, hope, and support to every family experiencing the death of a child, sibling, or grandchild. The organization helps others better assist the grieving family through peer-led mutual support, compassionate community, and volunteer outreach.
Online Support Community — Live Chat
The Compassionate Friends Online Support Community provides volunteer-led virtual chat rooms offering mutual comfort, hope, and support to bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings (age 18 and over) who have experienced the death of a child. Trained TCF volunteers — themselves bereaved parents, siblings, or grandparents — facilitate all sessions. General bereavement sessions meet throughout the week, and specialized rooms address specific types of loss. The intent of these chats is to provide mutual comfort and support through conversation; volunteers are not professional grief counselors.
