Calendar Event Sorting

At the top, the 24/7/365 SAMHSA Disaster Helpline and similar links.

Next, Bundled “All Day” Events

Some organizations (like 12 step recovery programs, AA, NA, AlAnon, etc.) have so many events happening throughout the day that they need to be in a bundled listing to spare endless scrolling.  Often there is a link to look up events by zip code and other criteria.

Lastly, Time-Specific Events

So you can see what’s happening in the next hours, time specific events are tagged and listed by start time from 12:01am early morning to 11:59pm late night.  There can be events and warmlines operating in different time zones, though we try to list all in Oregon’s Pacific Time Zone.

Deaf Alcoholic Vodcast – AA Mass Media in American Sign Language

Historic First for Deaf Alcoholics in Alcoholics Anonymous

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

For the first time in the history of Alcoholics Anonymous, Deaf alcoholics can share their recovery stories with other Deaf alcoholics through mass media in American Sign Language (ASL).

Platform: Grapevine & La Viña YouTube Channel

What is a Vodcast? A vodcast (video podcast) is online video content that combines the accessibility of podcasts with visual elements essential for American Sign Language communication.

Use this link to access the Vodcast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKuECogGrrA&list=PL32cyZpp2liBOcLY6M6rEh1qFL7MKSFI7

HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE

This represents the first mass media forum for Deaf alcoholics to share recovery stories with other Deaf alcoholics in American Sign Language. Previously, AA Access Committees hired interpreters to translate Deaf persons’ stories into English audio recordings or written English for Grapevine magazine or the Box 459 newsletter.

FUNDING & SUPPORT

Financial Responsibility: The Deaf Alcoholic Vodcast team funds the ASL vodcast project, including video production and interpreter services

Grapevine’s Role: Provides guidance and platform for publishing vodcasts on their YouTube channel

Guidelines Available: Written guidelines help AA Access Committees work with Deaf alcoholics and the Deaf Alcoholic Vodcast team to create submission-ready videos

What is Families Anonymous?

Families Anonymous celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 2021. We were formed in 1971 by a group of concerned parents in California who were seeking ways of dealing with the problem of substance abuse and addiction in their children. Our members include parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, significant others, other family members and friends of those with a current, suspected or former drug problem. We have been one of the best kept secrets in the recovery community, even though we have groups throughout the world.

Families Anonymous is a 12 Step fellowship for the families and friends who have known a feeling of desperation concerning the destructive behavior of someone very near to them, whether caused by drugs, alcohol, or related behavioral problems. When you come into our rooms you are no longer alone, but among friends who have experienced similar problems. Any concerned person is encouraged to attend our meetings, even if there is only a suspicion of a problem.

Your identity is protected in our meetings. We know each other by our first names only. Anonymity of our members is paramount to the success of our program. Not only is anonymity an underlying principle of the program, but it is so important that it is part of our name.

You have nothing to lose but your pain and anger. Read on if you are ready to find the peace and serenity that our members have found through the working of the FA program.

The acronym HAMS stands for Harm reduction, Abstinence, and Moderation Support. HAMS provides pragmatic strategies to enable individuals to reduce the risks associated with drinking. Alcohol Harm Reduction is non-judgmental–it sees nothing inherently wrong or diseased about recreational intoxication. Alcohol Harm Reduction recognizes that most drinkers have no wish to harm or kill themselves or others.
Alcohol Harm Reduction does not seek to force individuals to change in ways which they do not choose for themselves. Alcohol Harm Reduction respects every person as a unique individual and supports each individual in the goal which he/she has chosen for him/herself. Alcohol Harm Reduction neither promotes nor condemns drinking. Alcohol Harm Reduction supports goals of safer drinking, reduced drinking, or abstinence from alcohol or other substances.
The HAMS Harm Reduction Network provides information and support for people who wish to reduce the harm in their lives caused by the use of alcohol. We support every positive change.

What Moderation Management Provides

  • A nine-step cognitive behavioral change program covering: self-assessment of drinking patterns · setting personal limits · recognizing triggers · developing coping strategies · maintaining a healthy, balanced life

  • Science-backed drinking guidelines to help members understand what moderate, low-risk drinking looks like

About Moderation Management

Moderation Management (MM) is a secular nonprofit founded in 1994 as the first harm reduction–based peer support program built specifically for non-dependent problem drinkers. MM was created to offer a practical, non-judgmental alternative to abstinence-only programs for people who recognize their drinking is causing problems but are not yet ready — or appropriate — for full sobriety. MM’s nine-step cognitive behavioral program has helped tens of thousands of members take responsibility for their drinking, reduce harmful patterns, and build healthier lives on their own terms. MM has been honored with a Top-Rated Nonprofit Award from GreatNonprofits and maintains an active network of daily online meetings, peer communities, and free self-guided resources. For professional resources, MM operates an approved provider directory connecting members with moderation-informed therapists and counselors.
